Press Releases

A Press Release is a statement released by an organisation to multiple media outlets – read on to find out what topics you would send a Press Release about, who to send it to, and the structure of a well-written Press Release.

Why would you send a Press Release?

You might send a Press Release for a number of reasons including:

  • Introducing a new business to media outlets
  • Announcing an award winner or other significant achievement
  • To fire-fight against potentially negative press
  • To announce new products and services
  • Announcing partnerships with other businesses or charities
  • Informing about exciting news relating to the business or industry

If published by media outlets, this will also help improve your Search Engine Results Page rankings, as they will likely link back to your website – this will form a backlink.

Who to send Press Release to

Once you’ve written an informative Press Release, you need to make sure that it gets into the hands of the relevant media outlets. This includes newspapers, radio stations, magazine publishers, and PR systems such as PressLoft, who specialise in connecting businesses with journalists and influencers across various sectors including interiors, gifts, gardening, fashion, beauty and more.

What to include in a Press Release

An effective Press Release will include the following sections:

  • An eye-catching, concise headline
  • Date – to inform the journalist that they are reading the latest version of the information
  • Introduction – this should be a summary of the topic of the Press Release. If a journalist were only to read the introduction, would they have an understanding of the content of the release?
  • Body – this gives a couple of paragraphs of added detail about the Press Release topic
  • Company detail – a short paragraph giving basic company information including the industry sector, how long the business has been operating and its vision.
  • Contact details – who the journalist should contact for more information.

It’s also great to provide an image alongside the text of the Press Release – if you do this, give an image title/caption at the bottom of the Press Release too.
